Printing textbook copy barcode labels

You can print copy labels individually, for copies you are adding, for those in a Resource List, copy category, and by the sheet.
For labels by the sheet, for copies in a Resource List or copy category, or for those added on or after a particular date, print them from the Textbook page of Reports.

important: You must have version 5.0.5 (or higher) of Adobe® Reader® to print barcode labels. Make sure to configure the Page Handling options on the Print dialog of Adobe.

How do I print barcode labels in Circulation or the Catalog?

  1. If you want more than one barcode label for each copy, change the number adjacent to Print.
  2. To include additional information on the label, select any of the four optional fields:
    • Site Name or District Name
    • Title (up to 20 characters)
    • Author (up to 20 characters)
    • Location (up to 30 characters)

  3. Choose the label stock and the starting label.
  4. Click Run Report.
  5. When the Report Manager opens, click View to open the label report.
  6. After positioning the label stock in your printer, use Adobe Reader's toolbar button or menu command to print the labels.

Do I need to test them?

The first time you print barcode labels, print a few samples on plain paper, and do the following:

  • Make sure that the barcode is centered on the label. (Scanners require some white space at either end of the vertical barcode lines.)
    If not, adjust the offsets and try again. Once the barcodes are centered, Destiny® saves the offset settings you used so that you do not have to set them again.
  • Make sure that your scanner, PHD, or wireless handheld device can read the barcodes. The quality of the printout varies from printer to printer; some older printers cannot produce scanner-readable barcodes.

What does the label contain?

Barcode labels contain the copy's scannable barcode, the eye-readable number, and any of the four optional fields:

  • Site Name or District Name
  • Title (up to 20 characters)
  • Author (up to 20 characters)
  • Location (up to 30 characters)

important Teacher's editions have TE before the title. Resource kits have RK before the title.

What label stock can I use?

You can use any of three stocks. Stock from other vendors may work as well. Make sure to print a test page on plain paper and adjust the offsets as needed.

How are the labels on the sheet numbered?

Destiny® counts labels from left to right, then top to bottom.
To start printing on a label other than the first one on the sheet, set Start on label to the label number where printing should begin.
For example, to start printing on the second label of the third row of a 3 × 10 sheet, enter 8.

The printing is not centered on the label

How do I correct this?

Use the Printer offsets to fine-tune the alignment of the printing on the labels. The Horizontal and Vertical offsets let you adjust the left and top margins, respectively. Each increment is equal to 1/10th of a millimeter. Keep in mind that the offsets needed for each label stock vary from printer to printer.

note The first time you select a label stock, print a few tests on plain paper to ensure that the printing is aligned correctly.

Once the barcodes are centered, Destiny saves the offset settings you used so that you do not have to set them again.

For the Horizontal setting, locate your stock in the following table and enter a number within the allowable range:
