Use Biblionasium

You can integrate Destiny with Biblionasium™.

Before You Begin

Before synchronizing the Destiny patron records with Biblionasium, decide how you want to manage Biblionasium groups:

  • Manage groups with Destiny: Automatically create groups based on homeroom and grade-level information from Destiny patron records. These groups are updated each time you synchronize the data.
  • Manage groups with Biblionasium: Manually create and update groups within Biblionasium.

Manage Groups with Destiny

If you want to manage groups with Destiny and your school's Destiny patron records do not currently contain homerooms and/or grade levels, use the following instructions to update your patron records.

Update Destiny patrons via the Patron Import process (requires a CSV file)
  • Assign grade levels and homerooms in the CSV file.

Note: If the file contains a homeroom that does not exist in the Destiny site, the Patron Import process creates it and assigns it to the patron.

Update Destiny patrons manually

Add homerooms to your Destiny site using the following steps:

  1. Select Admin > Manage Homerooms.
  2. In the Add Homeroom field, type the name of the homeroom.
  3. To assign a Supervisor, click Select.
  4. Search for the patron to assign as Supervisor, and then click Select next to that person's name.
  5. Repeat these steps for all homerooms you want to add.

Once homerooms are added, you are ready to assign students and grade levels using one of the recommended methods:

  • From the Update Patrons page, update homerooms and grade levels based on a list of patrons or a barcode list or file.
  • From the Manage Patrons page, update patron records one-by-one.

Make sure the Biblionasium access levels for each user type have been configured. See Access Levels for Biblionasium.

Enable the Biblionasium Integration

  1. Complete all the steps in the Before You Begin section.
  2. Log in as a site administrator or the Destiny Administrator.
  3. Select Admin > Site Configuration > Site Info sub-tab.
  4. Find the Site Customer Number section.
  5. Use the following table to complete your tasks:
    To…Then…
    Enable Biblionasium
    1. Select the Use Biblionasium checkbox.
    2. Read the agreement.
    3. To sign the agreement, enter your Name, and then click Sign.
    4. Click Save.

    Note: To discontinue the Biblionasium integration, deselect the Use Biblionasium checkbox. A message appears.

    Select a supervisor

    Before you can enable Biblionasium, assign a Biblionasium Supervisor. The Biblionasium Supervisor has administrative rights in Biblionasium, including group management.

    1. To assign a user, click Select.
    2. Enter a first name, last name or both in the Find Patron field, and then click Search.
    3. In the patron list, find a patron to assign as the Biblionasium Supervisor, and then click Select.

    Note: The Biblionasium Supervisor must have the access level permission Use Biblionasium as Staff.

    Synchronize Destiny and Biblionasium
    1. Click Synchronize to synchronize Destiny patron and catalog records with Biblionasium.
    2. To automatically synchronize every week, select the Automatically synchronize every 7 days checkbox. You can manually synchronize at any time by clicking Synchronize.
