Location Labels

Destiny lets you print barcode labels for one, some, or all of your locations.

To print location barcode labels:

  1. Select Reports > Resource Reports.
  2. Under Labels, click Location Labels.
  3. If running the report at the district, select a site from the For drop-down.
  4. From the Select by Location From and to drop-downs, choose the alphabetical range of locations for which you want barcodes. For all locations, leave Select Location in the drop-downs.
  5. From the Format for section, choose Barcode labels or 8.5" x 11" paper (two-column list).
  6. If you choose labels, use the drop-down to choose one of the preloaded label stocks:
    1. Enter the number of the next available label in the Start on label field.

      Notes:

      • With Destiny, you can continue using previously-used label sheets so you do not waste any of your labels. To determine the Start on label, see Label Numbering.
      • Offsets needed for each label stock vary from printer to printer, and some printers do not allow offsets. Any offsets you define for labels are in addition to the unprintable area defined in your printer's properties.
    2. If your page needs to be moved left or right (horizontal) or up or down (vertical), enter the appropriate setting in Printer offset to center the printing.
      • Horizontal: Use the Horizontal printer offset to move the printing left or right. Each number is equal to 1/10th of a millimeter. To see a difference, change the existing number by at least 10. A smaller number shifts the printing to the left. A larger number shifts the printing to the right. Make sure the number you enter is within the allowable range for your stock.
      • Vertical: Use the Vertical printer offset to move the printing up or down. Each number is equal to 1/10th of a millimeter. To see a difference, change the existing number by at least 10. A smaller number shifts the printing upwards. A larger number shifts the printing down. Make sure the number you enter is within the allowable range for your stock.
  7. Click Run Report.
  8. Report Manager opens. When the status changes to Completed, click View.
  9. Using your Adobe Reader print options, select the printer of choice, place label stock in the printer, and deselect the Fit to page checkbox.

Test Label

The first time you print barcode labels, print a few samples on plain paper, and do the following:

  • Ensure the barcode is centered on the label. (Scanners require some white space at either end of the vertical barcode lines.)
    If not, adjust the offsets and try again. When you print, Destiny saves the offset settings you used so that you do not have to set them again.
  • Make sure that your scanner, PHD, or wireless handheld device can read the barcodes. The quality of the printout varies from printer to printer; some older printers cannot produce scanner-readable barcodes.

Label Contents

Location barcode labels contain the location's name, scannable barcode, and the eye-readable number.

Label Stock

You can select from the following label stocks. Stock from other vendors could also work. Print a test page on plain paper, and adjust the offsets as needed.

Label Numbering

Destiny counts labels from left to right, then top to bottom.

To start printing on a label other than the first one on the sheet, set Start on label to the label number where printing should begin.

For example, to start printing on the second label of the third row of a 3 × 10 sheet, enter 8.

Center the Print

Use the Printer offset fields to fine-tune the alignment of the printing on the labels. The Horizontal and Vertical offsets let you adjust the left and top margins, respectively. Each increment is equal to 1/10th of a millimeter. Keep in mind that the offsets needed for each label stock vary from printer to printer.

The first time you select a label stock, print a few tests on plain paper to ensure that the printing is aligned correctly.

When you print, Destiny saves these settings so that you do not have to set them again.

Any offsets you define for barcode labels are in addition to the unprintable area defined in your printer's properties.
